Aquesta frase d’Orson Welles ens recorda les diferències entre la narrativa literària i el guió cinematogràfic. Aquestes són moltes. Escriure imatges barrejades amb diàlegs i aconseguir que avanci la narració, és força diferent que escriure, per exemple, una novel·la. Hem de tenir molt clar que la tècnica d’escriure perquè quelcom sigui vist, és força diferent que la d’escriure per ser llegit.

Però són menys les vegades que es parla de les semblances, quan aquestes també existeixen.

Davant la pàgina zero de la creació cinematogràfica trobem un guionista, qui no deixa de ser un escriptor que amb més o menys destresa crea un “món” al voltant d’un tema, on hi coexisteixen: personatges, idees, i evidentment, paraules.

Moltes vegades aquestes paraules no calen, d’altres són massa supèrflues; en algunes ocasions mal triades; però tot sovint, també són petites joies que ens ofereix una pel·lícula.

L’origen del “miracle” sempre és responsabilitat del guionista, i això mai ningú li podrà prendre. Però el triomf d’aquesta “joia” és comprensible que sigui compartit. Quan un guió està escrit i “enquadernat”, la vida d’aquest només ha fet que començar. Perquè una pel·lícula funcioni, els “poetes” han de ser molts. Bons guions s’han espatllat amb films mediocres, i guions simples d’escriptors poc experimentats s’han convertit en pel·lícules de culte.

Una frase o un diàleg que ens agrada, a vegades és el resultat d’un bon moment d’inspiració -qui sap si genialitat- del guionista. Però en altres ocasions respon a d’altres factors: l’encertada intensitat i to de l’actriu, la bellesa de la música que acompanyava les paraules, la modificació que han patit els diàlegs en el rodatge, o simplement un context social i polític ha fet que aquella frase o paraula quedi gravada en la retina de milions de persones per la resta dels temps.

Arch Stanton ha triat 50 d’aquestes frases o cites que denoten certa destresa, o pel motiu que sigui tots els cinèfils encara recordem. Perquè no afecti al significat, en la gran majoria s’ha intentat respectar la llengua original del film.
